Near asked:

For example, a person can know quite a bit about Roman politics, but not support the Brutii faction.
Or someone that knows quite a bit about 18th century british politics, but not taking sides.

Similarily, one can know a bit about Australian politics and neither be labor or conversative party. Or mexican politics.

Is a political whiz who is non-partisan possible?
I’m loving the answers here!

Dr. Evil asked:

I’ve given up on politics. The stress of all the power hungry politicians running America into the ground is like a circus to me. As an independent no one who is voted in as the next President will please me. It’s a hopeless cause. The ****** of our times a.k.a. the President of Iran is invited to speak at a University in our country. Where does it end?

Can the liberals and conservatives on this board refrain from petty mudslinging and actually debate politics ?

edmund t asked:

Or is everyone currently participating in the politics section so misinformed about the others stance on issues that they can not coherently argue an opposing position?

You could all prove me wrong, but how many can refrain from monosyllabic jabs when they are confronted with other opinions?
Velouria, it seems that you are unable to answer simple questions so I will exempt you from this conversation. You can continue with your “pity” comments until you have something productive to contribute.
Death_by_stereo you raise a good point, people do say outlandish things on the internet due to the anonymity it grants them, but doesn’t such banter only inhibit the democratic process from taking place because we obscure the real issues with stories of haircuts and ex-wives?
Anti-shiraz, its not politics. Political science for example is the study of government and civics, where does yellow journalism and mudslinging factor in ? yes they have been around for a time but is it necessary?

Big Dave: yes emotions do get carried away but shouldn’t we hold ourselves to a higher standard? How does getting emotional about a subject validate our claims any further?

Pfo: questions do have clear answers, even in the political spectrum, there is reasoning and policy that dictates why things occurred, to lower oneself to mudslinging when asked about an issue does not answer the question.

Big N: refering to liberalism as a mental illness simply proves my earlier statements. If you are able to coherently argue an issue then why don’t you?

What can we do to get religion out of American politics?

Duffman asked:

Religion and politics shouldn’t mix. Mixing religion with American politics doesn’t make Americans more religious, and it certainly doesn’t make politicians more moral. All it does is dumb down our political discourse and provide a safe haven for hypocrites.

The Invisible Hand/Illuminati asked:

I hear a whole bunch of hogwash when people call each other names in the political arena. I’ve heard the names of “commies, liberals, repug, nazi” and many more.

I thought adults were more civilized and mature rather than using child like tactics to make a person look odd or bad. What good will name calling do in politics?

Are political adults unable to debate in a mature style?

What is your perspective on this?

Thanks for your answers.
