“Politics is the art of getting votes from the poor, and campaign funds from the rich, while promising to protect them from one another.”

Do you find a lot of truth in that statement?

Sanoski asked:

I know nothing about it. I actually loath politics, but I feel like I should at least know the basics. Any websites or book recommendations? I want to be able to carry a conversation on politics without looking like an idiot. Since I’m an ambassador I don’t really support anyone. I’m neutral. If someone wants to talk about who should be president, I want to be able to give good and bad points for each side. But I know nothing about this planet’s political system. Any ideas?

What caused the vast rift between urban and rural American politics?

Adam H asked:

As recently as 1996 Bill Clinton carried large swaths of rural America, even in the South. Clinton even won many rural counties in Texas while losing urban Harris and Dallas counties. In just over 10 years, America has all but polarized among urban-rural lines. For all of Obama’s conciliatory talk, rural America still overwhelmingly rejected him, just as surely as urban America overwhelmingly rejected McCain.

So what caused it? Why does urban America now seem off limit to Republicans, and rural America out of reach for Democrats? Surely this can’t ALL be because of abortion, gun rights, and *** marriage!

I can’t help but notice that no matter who is running for what election, religion is always an issue. Why is it that a candidate’s religion always comes under fire by the press, specifically in presidential races?

Do you think American Politics and Social thought are too Absolute?

eorpach_agus_eireannach asked:

From my perspective American Politics seems very absolute.

For example, *** Marriage shouldn’t be allowed because then Polygamy or Polygyny can use the same excuse.

At the onset of the Iraq war some European States were called cowards or enemies because they didn’t back the US.

And finally, the two party system where if you’re republican you think of small government oppose abortion and socially conservative. Where the democrats are big government, socially liberal and have protectionist tendencies.

Do you think America is absolutist in this regard, and if so or not why is this a good/bad thing?
